I've had an XBOX for almost 2yrs now and we've always had problems with it. I was too lazy to call MS to complain until this August after having read some forum posts about similar issues w/ "bad disk" messages, freezing games, etc. The customer service people caved quickly on the $100 repair fee reducing it to ~ $60. I told them I wasn't interested in paying anything and believed that this should be fixed at MS expense. They disagreed and seemed helpless to offer anything else...no recourse...no supervisor - just a black hole!
I called back after seeing the lawsuit news and got the same story: "your XBOX is out of warranty" and you must pay $100 for the repair (their last "special offer" had expired). After some more complaining I was transferred to another agent who asked for all of my info again. He said the offer of $60 was still in effect and that's all he could "offer at the moment" (which he seemed to emphasize)... I asked if I should wait but he didn't offer more info...is this story getting attention in Redmond? I'd like to buy some new games so maybe they'll re-think this if more people call.
via Gamer suing Microsoft for bad Xbox drives - Joystiq - www.joystiq.com:
Yesterday, Sean Burke filed a suit in Los Angeles alleging that his Xbox stopped reading and playing games after less than a year of normal use. The suit is looking to represent all Xbox owners who have had similar problems and is seeking compensation. Microsoft hasn’t responded yet, but we’ll keep you updated. Any readers have an experience with bad drives in their Xbox?
